Hand, Elbow & Knee Fillers

Dr. Metin Demir  ·  6 min read

Your face may look young, but hands, elbows and knees can give your age away. These areas age faster than the face because of sun exposure, mechanical stress and natural volume loss. With biocompatible fillers and biostimulators, restoring skin quality and volume in these zones is now a routine clinical option.

Why Do These Areas Age Faster?

With age, subcutaneous fat thins, the skin loses elasticity and fullness. On the back of the hand this thinning produces dramatic results: veins and tendons become prominent, bony contours show, and skin texture deteriorates. On the elbow, friction and pressure cause thickening and darkening. On the knees, both aesthetic concerns and loss of elasticity surface.

These regions are routinely neglected in body-care routines: sunscreen is not applied, moisturisation is inadequate. The result is a combination of sun damage, pigmentation issues and loss of elasticity.

Materials and Methods

Hyaluronic acid fillers address volume loss. Medium-density HA injected on the back of the hand softens the appearance of veins and bones and restores smooth contours. The effect lasts 6–12 months.

Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) biostimulators not only provide volume but also stimulate fibroblasts for long-term collagen production. Particularly preferred for the hands; effects can last 12–18 months.

Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) is the longest-acting biostimulator. It triggers the body's own collagen production over several months, producing progressive firming and volume restoration; usually 2–3 sessions are required.

Mesotherapy is used alone or in combination with fillers to improve skin quality, pigmentation and elasticity.

Procedure and Recovery

Hand-back treatment uses cannula technique to minimise vascular injury risk. For knees and elbows, needle or cannula is chosen by anatomy. A session lasts 20–40 minutes depending on the number of areas. Mild transient swelling resolves within 24–48 hours.

Results and Maintenance

HA fillers show visible improvement after a single session. With biostimulators, the best result appears 4–6 weeks after 2–3 completed sessions, as the body's own collagen production engages. An annual refresher session preserves long-term outcomes.
